If you're the store owner, then you can use your Shopify admin to pause your store temporarily or close your store completely.
You can pause your store in the following ways:
- Pause your store and continue to work on it.
- Pause your store completely and step away from it.
You can close your store in the following ways:
- Close your store.
- Sell your store on Exchange Marketplace.
If you are on a free trial and you haven't chosen a pricing plan, yet, then you don't need to take any action to cancel your account. You can't pause your store during the free trial. Can you do spotify free month then student discount.

Decide which pause plan is right for you
Not available to: Shopify Plus

If you have received funding through Shopify Capital, pausing your store using either pause plan will affect your remaining Capital advances. For more information, contact Shopify Support.
There are two ways to pause your store. Choose the right plan for you based on your requirements.
Pause and Build plan
The Pause and Build plan lets you pause your storefront and continue to work on your store for a reduced subscription fee. You can access your Shopify admin to optimize your store and edit your products, but your checkout is disabled. This means that your customers can visit your store and browse your products, but they can't purchase your products.
The Pause and Build plan might be the right choice for you if, for example, your store is seasonal, or if it is only open for a specific period of time.
Pause plan
The Pause plan lets you pause your store for three months and pay no subscription fee. While you are paused, you can step away from your store completely and focus on other priorities.
Unlike the Pause and Build plan, you can't access your Shopify admin, work on your store, or sell to customers while you are on the Pause plan.
Visitors to your store will see a message that tells them that your store is closed temporarily. You can collect visitor email addresses so that you can let your visitors know when you reopen your store, and for any other future communication.
You can reopen your store at any time within those three months by logging in and choosing a new plan. However, if you decide not to reopen your store within three months, then you are upgraded to the Pause and Build plan, which has the reduced subscription fee. After you are upgraded, your storefront is still closed to your customers, but you can access your Shopify admin and work on your store to get it ready so that you can start selling again.
Pause your store and continue to work on it
Note
To help you reduce the impact of recent events on your store, Shopify is offering you the ability to pause selling your products and to continue to build your store for a reduced price of $9 USD.
When you use the Pause and Build plan, your store continues to run at a reduced cost of $9 USD per month. You can access your Shopify admin and edit your products when you need to, but your checkout is disabled. This means that customers can see your products, but they can't purchase them.
While you're on the Pause and Build plan, you can do the following:
- Access your Shopify admin.
- Access basic reports about your site's performance.
- View your online storefront.
- Accept manual payments using draft orders.
However, you can't use your online store checkout, POS, discounts, abandoned checkout recovery, gift cards, and third-party integrations, such as publishing your products to Facebook and Google.
Caution
Consider uninstalling any third-party apps that have recurring charges so that you are not billed for those apps after you pause your store.
Steps:
- Log in as the store owner.
- From your Shopify admin, click Settings, and then click Plan and permissions.
- In the Store status section, click Pause and build.
- If you agree with the terms, then click Pause and build.
- Review the changes to your billing cycle, and then click Confirm changes.
- Log in as the store owner.
- From the Shopify app, go to Store > Settings.
- Under Store settings, tap Plan and permissions.
- In the Store status section, tap Pause and build.
- If you agree with the terms, then tap Pause and build.
- Review the changes to your billing cycle, and then click Confirm changes.
- Log in as the store owner.
- From the Shopify app, go to Store > Settings.

Work on your store while you're on the Pause and Build plan

To improve your customer experience, you can customize your theme to hide your product prices and hide the Add to cart buttons so that customers don't try to buy anything while your store is paused.
If you don't want to display your products while your store is paused, then you can use a password to protect your online store. This way, customers won't see your products while your store is paused. You can customize your password page and write a message that your customers will see while your store is paused.
All your apps remain active after you pause your store. If you want to pause your apps, then you need to cancel them individually.
Reopen your store after you pause and build
When you're ready to reopen your store, log in, and then select a new plan that is best suited for you.
Steps:
- Log in as the store owner.
- From your Shopify admin, click Settings, and then click Plan and permissions.
- In the Plan details section, click Select a plan.
- Select a pricing plan from the available options.
After you select a plan, you can start selling again.
If you set up a password for your store while it was paused, then you can remove your online store password.
Pause your store completely and step away from it
If you are an active merchant, you can use the Pause plan to pause your store completely and step away from it. In this case, your store is paused for up to to three months without being charged for your subscription. You can reopen your store any time during the three months. If, after three months, you don't reopen your store, then you are upgraded to the Pause and Build plan, which is $9 USD per month.
While you are on the Pause plan, you can't access your Shopify admin, work on your store, or sell to customers.
Before you start, consider creating a password page to tell your visitors that you'll be back soon. You won't be able to access or edit your password page while your store is paused.
Steps:
- Log in as the store owner.
- From your Shopify admin, click Settings, and then click Plan and permissions. Spotify connect app download.

- Click Submit.

- From the Shopify app, go to Store > Settings.

- Log in as the store owner.

Your store is paused.
Reopen your store after you pause and step away

Close your Shopify store
Note
To help you reduce the impact of recent events on your store, if you choose to reopen your store within 90 days of closing it, Shopify guarantees that all of your store's data and configuration information will be preserved.
If you don't want to run your online store anymore, then you can close it at any time. After you close your store, you won't have access to your Shopify admin. If you want to log back in, then you will have to enter your credit card details and reactivate your store.
If you close your online store, then you can't create a new online store that uses the same store name or the same myshopify domain.
Note
You need to close your store manually. Shopify Support can't close your store for you.
Before you close your store, consider the following:
- Make sure that you pay any outstanding charges that you might have. If you have no outstanding charges against your account, then you won't receive a bill after closing your store. For more information about billing, refer to understanding your Shopify bill.
- Save your store information by exporting CSV files. You can choose to save your bills by exporting your billing history.

- If you have a custom domain that you bought through Shopify, then you can transfer it to another provider.
- If you have a custom domain that you bought through a third-party, then you can remove it from your store using your Shopify admin. If you don't remove your domain from your Shopify store before closing it, then you might not be able to use it for another website.
- If you plan to close your store and move your domain to a new platform, then be aware that Shopify's HTTP Strict Transfer Security (HSTS) will remain in effect on your domain for 90 days after you close your store to help ensure the safety of your and your customers' information.
Note
If your subscription to Shopify is billed by a reseller, then you need to click Compare plans in the Plan details section of the Plans and permissions page to sign in to your reseller account and cancel your store.

- Log in as the store owner.
- From your Shopify admin, click Settings, and then click Plan and permissions.
- In the Store status section, click Sell or close store.
- Click Close store.
- Log in as the store owner.
- From the Shopify app, go to Store > Settings.
- Under Store settings, tap Plan and permissions.
- In the Store status section, tap Sell or close store.
- Tap Close store.
- Log in as the store owner.
- From the Shopify app, go to Store > Settings.
- Under Store settings, tap Plan and permissions.

- Enter your password to continue.
- At this point, you can contact Shopify to see if there is anything we can do to help. If you're sure that you want to close your store, then select a reason from the drop-down menu and then click Close store.
To confirm that your store is closed, you can go to your store's URL and see that your store no longer appears.

Unfreeze your Shopify store
If you missed a payment or if a payment fails three times, then your store will be frozen until you settle your bill with Shopify. Your store does not freeze until your bill's due date. If your store is frozen, then you can't access your admin and customers can't view your store.
Shopify bills in the UTC time zone. If payment fails on the third and final attempt, then the store is automatically frozen at 12:00 am UTC on the date that the bill is due. If your local time zone is behind UTC time, such as in North America, then your store seems to freeze a day earlier. Pay your bill to unfreeze your store.
Steps:
- Log in as the store owner.
- Successfully pay the outstanding balance on your account.
If you have multiple outstanding bills, then you're prompted to pay each invoice completely to unfreeze your store. To download your bills, you can export your billing history.
About cancelling a subscription
- Most subscriptions automatically renew unless you cancel them.
- If you cancel, you can keep using the subscription until the next billing date.
- If you cancel during a trial period, you might lose access to content immediately.
If you signed up for a free or discounted trial subscription and you don't want to renew it, cancel it at least 24 hours before the trial ends.

How to see or cancel subscriptions on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap the subscription that you want to manage. Don't see the subscription that you're looking for?
- Tap Cancel Subscription. (Or if you want to cancel Apple One but keep some subscriptions, tap Choose Individual Services.) If you can’t see Cancel, the subscription has been cancelled already and won't renew.
See or cancel subscriptions on your Mac
- Open the App Store app.
- Click the sign-in button or your name at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Click View Information at the top of the window. You may be asked to sign in.
- On the page that appears, scroll until you see Subscriptions, then click Manage.
- Click Edit next to the subscription that you want. Don't see the subscription that you're looking for?
- Click Cancel Subscription. If you can’t see Cancel Subscription, then the subscription has been cancelled already and won't renew.
See or cancel subscriptions on your Apple Watch
- On your Apple Watch, open the App Store.
- Scroll to Account and tap it.
- Tap Subscriptions.

See or cancel subscriptions on Apple TV
On Apple TV, you can edit subscriptions only for tvOS apps that are installed on that Apple TV. For Apple TV (3rd generation or earlier), use an iOS or iPadOS device or computer to manage your subscriptions.
- Open Settings.
- Select Users & Accounts and then select your account.
- Select Subscriptions.
- Choose the subscription that you want to manage, then select Cancel Subscription. If you can’t see Cancel Subscription, then the subscription has been cancelled already and won't renew.
If you don't have an Apple device
To see or cancel your subscriptions, use iTunes on a Windows PC or follow the steps for your Android device or other device.
If you don't see the subscription that you're looking for

Is the subscription billed through another company?
On your bank statement, find the charge for the subscription. If it does not say iTunes, Apple or something similar, the subscription might not be billed through Apple.
Get help with subscriptions that aren't billed through Apple.
Did a family member sign up for the subscription?
A Family Sharing organiser can’t manage subscriptions for other family members. Ask your family members to change or cancel their subscriptions from their own devices or when they're signed in with their own Apple ID. You can also use Ask to Buy to control what kids buy.
